My camera does not have 9 lives

Hehe, I just read back a few posts.  My camera does not have 9 lives.  It had three and it has shot its last shot. =(  I still try around once a month to turn it on, haha.  Tragic.

My, where does the time go?

I didn't realize how much time had gone by since I last updated.  So much has happened in the last 3 months!  God has been gracious in his timing and provision for so many things!

*I've been able to take two trips this summer: one trip with family to Seattle/Portland and Northern California, and another trip with college friends to Yosemite for a hike up Half Dome(was worth it, but I'll never do it again)!
*I've been tutoring four students over the past two months or so and I just started tutoring a fifth this week.  This last one is definitely a challenge, haha.  He totally doesn't want to be there learning math.
*I've recently become a member at Grace Bible Fellowship and I've been blessed by the teaching, the fellowship, discipleship and opportunities to serve there.
*I got to play badminton for the first time in three years!  It was so much fun and I was sore for about three days.
*I've had more time to spend with people during the daytime due to being unemployed
*I've been challenged to watch my spending and budget to be a better steward of what the Lord has given me
*I've been given opportunities to serve as a part of the music team and youth Sunday school class.
*A woman at church has given her time and energy to disciple me.
*Wedding planning is still going.  =)  I'm constantly challenged through issues that come up or in conversations people have had with me to be more prayerful and trusting in the Lord to prepare me to be a good wife for Bryan.  If you like wedding details, you can read more about the process at www.jennpung.wordpress.com  If not, I'll spare you the details.  Haha.
*I'll be attending the National Hispanic University in San Jose for my teaching credential program.  Yes, the National Hispanic University.  =)  A person thought I was hispanic....once in my life.  That counts, right?  One of my friends says I should totally sport a sweatshirt with their school name, haha.  I start school on Monday.
*Today I was officially added to the substitute teaching list at New Haven Unified School District.  I have a nifty badge to wear and now I'm taking a break from doing online training about sexual harassment and child abuse.
*Bryan got a new doggie!  It's mine too by association.  =)  He's pretty smart, maybe a little too smart, haha.  Today he was so disobedient...
*Girls' accountability group has been great
*My sister got a new hamster.  We named her Elphie after Elphaba from Wicked.  I like to say it's mine by association too.  =)  Our robo-dwarf hamsters died just in the past month and each of my family members wanted a new one, but none of them wanted to admit it.  "I don't want one, so-and-so does...." they would say, haha.  She looks a bit like a chipmunk and she likes to bite people.

I will consider this my thankfulness list for November, haha.  A lot to be thankful for.  To be honest, I've struggled and complained on and off about things that I had no right to complain about.  I've been discontent, compared myself to others, etc.  A lot of ugliness in my heart.  But the Lord is faithful in bringing these things to light and faithful in working in my heart in terms of dealing with sin.  And really, looking back at my list of things, how can I not be thankful and content?

Psalm 16:5 The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You support my lot.

Parents say the darnedest things

*My mom was driving us home today after shopping at Fry's and Costco.  Out of nowhere she asks, "What are those things that people wear with the two belts over the shoulder?"  My sister replies, "Suspenders".  After awhile of thinking it over, she turns to us, "How do you spell that.... F-E-N-D....?"  My sister responds, "Nope, that's 'fender' like a car fender."

*Over dinner, I told my dad about how they had the fathers stand up today at church.
Dad: So, say there's a man with his wife, and she might be pregnant, but he doesn't know yet if he's a parent.  Should he still stand up?

*We were talking about hypothetical questions leading into "would you rather" questions, and I asked the one about whether you would prefer to fly or be invisible as a superhuman power.
Mom: Fly.
Sister: Fly.
Dad: Fly.  But then, nowadays it's so dangerous to do that......jets.  You don't know what will happen.

Haha, happy father's day!

Work Story #11: The end of work stories...for now

I walked into work stressed out because of things I thought I'd have to work on from the day before, and I got stressed out when I got an email telling me that something I had worked on the day before wasn't working.  My boss pulled me into his office telling me he had bad news.  He told me about the state of our company and told me that they were going to let me go, along with other developer and quality assurance positions.

At first I was in a state of shock(it was totally unexpected), and then a burden felt like it was lifted up from me.  No more stress over failed invoices, unapproved batches and missing accrual reversals.  More time for class observation, cset studying, wedding planning and getting some much needed exercise.  Of course there's also no income, heh.  Hello, unemployment.  Took the rest of the day to clean my desk off(3 years of stuff just adds up like crazy!) and boxed it all up.

Bunch of decision-making to be done too...

God yet again reminds me that no matter how much time I spend planning out my future, what He has in mind may be completely different, and that it is for my good.

The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9

Does a camera have 9 lives?

I bought this Canon SD1000 two years ago, and it's been having issues since the beginning.  Not too long after I bought it, the shutter for one of the lenses inside didn't open, so I shipped it to have it fixed under warranty.  A year later, before a wedding reception, it decided not to turn on.  A few days after, it started working again.  Over time, it's struggled with lens errors and sometimes the outer lens doesn't extend out all the way.  This past weekend I went to a wedding in Vancouver and it wouldn't turn on after the cermony, so I missed getting shots from the reception.  I'm waiting for it to come back to life again.  If a camera's anything like a cat, it should be okay for about another six failures or so.  Or maybe it just gets shy at weddings...
